Getting to Know Us

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted a horse. I use to mow grass in my neighborhood to earn money. I did this so that I could rent a horse at one of two local stables in the Atlanta area to ride. I did this through most of my middle school and high school years. My parents did not own any land, nor could we afford to buy a horse and board it. When I went off to college, I made a promise to myself that I would get a horse when I graduated. I kept that promise to myself and I have been a horse owner for over 30 years now.

I have kept my horses at my home or my farm throughout this 30 year period. I have loved every aspect of keeping and taking care of my horses. I don’t mind the work that goes into taking care of my horses. I have picked up and loaded hay to store at my barn for the winter. I have taken care of the horses when they were sick or injured without any fuss. Keeping the horses shoed and vetted on a regular basis has been no problem. What I hated was cleaning the water troughs. Cleaning the water troughs is the nastiest job of being a horse owner that I know.

I have always felt that something was available to help make this job less painful. I kept searching for a solution. I found some very interesting ones along the way. Some people have gone as far as to keeping goldfish in their water troughs to keep the algae from growing. I have cleaned out goldfish bowls enough to know that a fishbowl is even nastier than a horse trough. So I knew that this was not a solution.
